Likes old maps, running in crisp winter mornings, the smell of fresh coffee, a good book (or two) and "take it up two". Current obsession: climbing the RadCam.
Previous experience:
- Multi-pitch rock climbing experience (French grade 6+) indoors & outdoors (Germany, Belgium, Alps)
- Winter & summer hiking trips in Scotland (1997, 2002, 2003)
- One week ski-mountaineering course in Austrian Alps (2005)
- One alpine season, including ascent of Gran Paradiso & various peaks in the Mont-Blanc Area (2005)
- Extensive travelling & climbing in Himalayas (2002), Andes (2003) and Indonesia (2004)
- Co-led a group of 13 students on a 15 day "wilderness expedition" in the Black Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee, USA (2000)
- Highest point reached: Mt Chachani (Peru), 6060m.

Ben Spencer - Treasurer
3rd year historian, Brasenose College
Age: 22
If not on the crux of some desperate crack climb in a remote part of Britain, most likely to be found reading old expedition reports and chasing down their members. Messed around in his college's first eight for a while, but has decided to "focus on his studies"... and to mount an expedition to Greenland.
Previous experience:
- Walking/climbing/mountaineering in all Britain's mountainous areas, including Skye, Torridon, Glen Coe, the Cairngorms, Lake District, Snowdonia etc., in both summer and winter conditions.
- Rock climbing to HVS 5a standard, leading to Severe 4c.
- Downhill skiing in the Italian Alps.
- Mountain Leader (Summer) training.
- Voluntary outdoor leader, taking groups of up to 20 people into the hills in Dartmoor, Cornwall (south-west coastal path), and the Yorkshire Dales (since 2002)
- Led a group of 5 friends on a month-long long distance trek across the French/Italian/Swiss Alps (2002)
- Extensive independent travelling and trekking in South Africa (2000), throughout Europe (2002, 2004, 2005), Hong Kong, China, Russia, and Mongolia (2003). This includes an overland trip from Hong Kong to St Petersburg.
- 16 hour Mountain First Aid, as required by the Mountain Leader Training Board UK (November 2005)
- Scottish Winter Mountaineering courses (Jan 2006) and Alpine training (Easter 2006)
- 10 months work as an Accounts Assistant. (BioRobitics Ltd., Cambridge, 2002-3)
Dr. Tariq Qureshi - Medical Officer
Clinical tutor, Oxford University Medical School
Director of training, Oxford University First Aid Unit
Age: 31
Tariq juggles teaching resuscitation in the Med School and working as a First Aid Instructor with studying for a medical degree and teaching Expedition Medicine to groups heading all over the world. In his spare time (when he gets it!) he walks and climbs in Britain's wet and windy places. Having talked him into going to Greenland, the rest of the team feels much safer...
Previous experience:
- Expeditions to Iceland (mountaineering) and Arctic Norway / Sweden (mountaineering and sea kayaking).
- Keen climber, with experience of multi-pitched rock climbing in the UK and the French / Swiss Alps.
- Skiing in French Alps.
- Competing in endurance events such as the 'Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon'.
- Long distance walking in all mountain regions of the UK in both summer and winter conditions.
- Clinical interests in resuscitation, trauma, pre-hospital medicine, expedition medicine.
- Regularly delivers courses and lectures to both lay people and doctors on expedition medicine.
- Certificate in Pre-Hospital Emergency Care from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.
- Medical advisor to OUEC

Chris Abbott
4th year chemist, St. Hugh's College
Age: 23
A Platoon Commander in the TA, Chris has spent most of his time in Oxford running around muddy fields with a rugby ball. Having represented the University in the U21's, Greyhounds and Blues teams, he is currently training for the varsity match with the Oxford University Amateur Boxing team!
Would most like to : Climb a new peak, name it after the girl of the moment, then strap on his skis and not stop till the bottom!
Would least like to : Eat other members of the expedition as an alternative to de-hydrated food.
Previous experience:
- Two seasons Alpine experience in Chamonix
- Mountaineering Exercises with the Territorial Army in the French Alps, gaining a military Snow and Ice proficiency qualification.
- Rock climbs regularly in North Wales, particularly in the Ogwen Valley
- Platoon Commander in A(RGJ) Coy the Royal Rifle Volunteers.
- Competes annually in the British Army Infantry Alpine Skiing Championships in Val d'Isere.
- Experienced off-piste skier
- Various first-aid training, including the HSE-approved First Aid at Work certificate.
