ARCHIVE

12 June 2006 – Despite the distraction of revision, thesis-writing, and dreaded exams, the last month has been very successful for the expedition. Funding has poured in from the Lord Mayor’s 800th Anniversary Awards Trust, the Duke of Edinburgh Trust No.2, the Alpine Ski Club, the Sackler Foundation, and the Oxford University Expedition Council. Tteam members have also received personal grants from the Oxford-based A.C. Irvine Travel Fund. We now have sufficient funding for the expedition to go ahead!

2 June 2006 – The latest edition of The Cherwell, one of Oxford’s student papers, includes a full-page feature about the expedition (including a wicked photo of Hauke).

30 April 2006 - The expedition has now received the official approval of the British Mountaineering Council, along with generous financial support. We have also recently won an award from the Oxford University Society. Funding stands at £15,700. Our financial position has also been aided by the welcome support of Iceland Express, who have kindly agreed to provide the team with free flights to Reykjavik

7 April 2006 – The expedition has recently been awarded approval and funding from the Mount Everest Foundation and the Andrew Croft Memorial Fund. The Radleian Society of Radley College (Chris’s old school) have also made a generous donation. Funding stands at a healthy £13,500. We are starting to collect our equipment for freighting to Iceland, and Ben’s room is beginning to look like a climbing shop.

23 March 2006 – After a few slow weeks, fundraising is beginning to pick up again. The Gino Watkins Memorial Fund, The Arctic Club, and St Hugh’s College have made financial awards to the expedition fund, and Lyon Equipment have donated ropes and climbing hardware. The equipment orders are starting to go in. Our funds currently stand at £11,250. Half way there.

20 January 2006 – Fundraising is going well. Brasenose College and The Gordon Foundation have recently made us generous grants, bringing our total funds to £8,500.
